Recently released track "Stoney" by Jrama Witaj.
In hip hop you'll discover that there are numerous artist's who are suitable for a specific niche in the music industry. Personally I've never favored the "Stoner" niche of hip hop music. With that being said, who am I to make judgement of the type of music an artist's chooses or even creates?
What I can do is critique hip hop music based upon the history of the genre and culture and what made hip hop exciting in it's earliest days to recent times.
Songs based around smoking and drinking have been long overdo and watered down, but when an artist finds a way to diferentiate a song from songs of the similar concept, sometimes it works.
The track "Stoney" by Jrama Witaj is simply put, a "Stoner" song. However, the beat of the track, the way the song is constructed lyrically and the flow of the song has gained my approval. This is a dope track that everyone can feel, whether their involved in the "stoner" lifestyle or not.
I'm impressed. These types of songs usually focus too much on the concept of "smoking" and lack creativity. Jrama Witaj does this track well and has defintley separated "Stoney" from other smoking songs.
